The Devil's Dictionary

innate: adj. Natural, inherent—as innate ideas, that is to say, ideas that we are born with, having had them previously imparted to us. The doctrine of innate ideas is one of the most admirable faiths of philosophy, being itself an innate idea and therefore inaccessible to disproof, though Locke foolishly supposed himself to have given it "a black eye." Among innate ideas may be mentioned the belief in one's ability to conduct a newspaper, in the greatness of one's country, in the superiority of one's civilization, in the importance of one's personal affairs and in the interesting nature of one's diseases.

Has anybody had a chance to look at the code that was dumped on the net from East Anglia CRU?  If so, is the code that is the basis for global warming predictions rubbish or not?  I can’t follow the technical discussions and am stuck with snark v. snark discussions.

Would like to hear from somebody that actually knows something about puters.

Howdy elwed.

What I’m talking about has to do with the release of information from a British university.  Some say it was hacked, others say leaaked.  Frankly, I don’t care.

What I do care about was that I thought that global warming and its relationship to increased CO2 levels was settled.  From what I’m reading about the inability to replicate the findings from at least the datasets from this university, which appears to formed the foundation for many conclusions, I’m now antsy about having jumped on the AWG bandwagon.

My concern, separate and apart from the data sets, was the code used to get run results.  I don’t know dick about code and its all I can do to try to follow along with the code discussions.

If you get a chance go http://www.jgc.org/blog/

You have to scroll down, but in late November, early December he starts identifying problems with the code.  Are the problems he is discussing, and that I don’t understaand, big or small problems?

Any help in this area is appreciated.

I haven’t forgotten about you, but I have to confess that I have some catching up to do. However, I agree with author of the site that you linked to as far as his code analysis is concerned. He seems to have a point with regards to the motivation of the data correction being applied, but it’s that area where I have to find some time for study.
